Ocean State Job Lot

Very unhelpful location and employees. I waited in line to make a return and requested store credit because I did not have the receipt. They looked up my account and saw that the items had originally been purchased with a gift card. I was then told they could not issue store credit because I didn’t have the original gift card with me. The cashier was unable to explain why the credit couldn’t simply be put onto a new gift card. I’m not sure why I would be expected to keep an empty gift card with nothing left on it from a previous purchase. I ended up driving to the Fairhaven location, where they were able to process the return and help me with no problem at all. I will gladly drive out of my way to go to the Fairhaven location from now on.

I want to give a well-deserved shoutout to the Ocean State Job Lot in New Bedford. This store has consistently been clean, organized, and well-run every time I’ve visited. Deb James, Christine Tome, and Tiara deserve special recognition. They are professional, hardworking, organized, and always willing to go out of their way to help customers. Whether it’s helping with online orders, locating items, answering questions, or making sure customers have what they need, they handle everything with patience and a great attitude. You can tell they take pride in the store and in the work they do. They are relentless workers, very respectful, and they make the shopping experience much easier and more positive. I shop here often, and the level of customer service from this team is a big reason I continue coming back. Excellent store, excellent staff, and a great team representing Ocean State Job Lot in New Bedford.

I'm a regular shopper at OSJL - and have been to many of their stores. They're all pretty much the same, although the stock levels are better at some. BUT THIS STORE HAS THE MOST INCOMPETENT STAFF OF ANY OSJL STORE. They tried to overcharge us on some items, refused to let me use the men's room, and grew belligerent when we complained about the overcharge. AVOID THIS OSJL!!

I used to prefer this location as it was the most well stocked and friendliest one in the area, but I recently had an encounter in which, after seeing a reusable bag I was using mentioning a gluten free expo, proceed to "tease" me that the gluten free products I purchased, had gluten in them. While I did know he was lying and said as much to the employee's face, he leaned in on his statement and proceeded to tease/criticize every food item I purchased. It is hard enough to shop as a person recovering from disordered eating with a number of allergies, it doesn't need to made harder by employees putting doubt in customer's minds that are making the purchases that they have to study before buying to make sure they are safe.

*****UPDATED***** I went shopping here on March 11 2026 and honestly, this store has really gone downhill. It was dark, disorganized, and not a pleasant experience. Management definitely needs to step it up. I really hope improvements are made soon. So I just went to the store today (05/29/2026) and wow you can really see the progress they’re making. Glad to see it becoming a great place to shop again. The manager was very nice, and both the maintenance guy and cashier were incredibly polite. Great job to the whole team!
